The 2009 ideas and writings by a like minded soul who goes by sbb4th were accurate, prescient and as relevant now as they were then. On his (apparently now dead) blog; The Constitutional Libertarian, he wrote about his perspectives on the role and function of the Constitution and warns to take care that tyrants and the power-hungry are not allowed to undermine the core principles of our nation.
‘About 200 years after a group of intellects crafted the document known as the Constitution of the United Sates, it has withstood the assaults of tyrants and the power-hungry. It was beautifully written and easily understood, yet men have come to pervert and distort its written words and when those words prove inconvenient; they simply ignore it.
It is more evident now than ever before that we are no longer a nation of laws but a nation of ruling elites.
When it suits a purpose, things have been attached to our Constitution that were never intended to be part of it. One example is the Separation of Church and State, a notion that was based on a private letter penned by Thomas Jefferson… but what goes largely ignored was Jefferson's concern that religion and worship be protected from the government not the other way around.
Whenever the claim is made that the constitution is a 'living document,’ be suspicious. What the claimant in effect is saying; the Constitution is whatever you want it to be at that moment.’
What was supposed to be left to individual states, city legislatures and the people… has now been usurped by the judiciary as sort of a super legislature. What is missing is the adherence to another ignored Amendment, the 10th.
The Tenth Amendment (Amendment X) to the United States Constitution, was ratified on December 15, 1791 and it states the Constitution's principle of federalism by providing that powers not granted to the federal government by the Constitution, nor prohibited to the States, are reserved to the States or the people. I recommend looking to these guys for more info.
Tyrants and the power-hungry: Of course all this relates directly to what is happening in the United States right now. The scandal ridden presidency has shown those of us who were calling the alarm for years, not to be the paranoid conspiracy theorists that the liberal-fascists and the media propaganda machine tried to make us out to be.
I guess the most disturbing example was a statement made by Barack Obama just days before a series of scandals broke. While delivering the commencement address at Ohio State University, President Obama warned graduates to “trust their government and reject those shrill voices that tyranny lurks just around the corner." He went on to say it was they who are the source of our problems.
The president mocked his fellow citizens who raised questions; those who were concerned about government excesses and sounded the alarm.. as paranoid lunatics, just as liberal-fascists are want to do.
However it was Obama himself who proved that our fears were well-founded. The founders knew that government needs more checks, not fewer; more skepticism, not less. The current regime proved without a doubt that tyranny isn't lurking around the corner. It's here right now.
sbb4th was not alone in his thinking and like many of us, he saw the train wreck that is befalling us now, coming a long time ago.
