Pardon the Rant

...of course most of you have never heard ravings from me before.

I've been working in a Boston Emergency Department/ Trauma Center for years. Recently, I went back to working nights ...and I have been taking the time  and a lot back and forth to work as much as I am able.

Today I think I hit a 24 hour milestone of negative interactions with; crazy people, inebriates and being hit up for money from the 'homeless' and/or low socio-economic urban outdoorsmen and women of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts..

I worked Nights last night starting at 7-8pm til 8am:

• I was berated by a crazy person (who saw my nursing ID) on the commuter rail inbound with "bugs in her skin..." I wasn't yet north of Bridgewater.
• Drunk guy says he'll "throw feces in my mouth" at South Station because I said no. I think I may have improprietly said -fuck off- when he asked me "for a dollar." A reasonable exchange perhaps.
• Yelled at by a drunk guy on the Red Line because my bag bumped his leg when the train stopped hard.
• Accosted by a group of 20ish-year old homeless "yutes" toting trash bags full of goodies "heading for the shelter" while waiting at Park Street Station. "you got a dollar?" as they 'milled around' for a bit giving me 'scary' looks. I was not impressed.
• Solicited for "a dollar" at the T station outside the hospital at 8pm. ..it was -5 fucking degrees.
• Berated in the ER by multiple insane and drunk people... all night. One asked "for a dollar."
• Hit up for "a dollar" by a familiar foul smelling urban outdoorsman at 8am at the Green Line station. (I gave him one).
• Followed by a guy on the Red Line platform at 8:20 am who 'knew me' from the ER an apparently loved me ..and wouldn't stop talking till the train came.
• Missed my 8:30am Commuter Train home. Next train at 9:57. Haven't slept in 24 hours.. officially now.
• Accosted by not one, not two, but three separate urban outdoorsmen "looking for a dollar" and then by a well dressed non English speaking Asian man wanting to use my cell phone.. (that would be a-no)... while awaiting my train home at South Station scheduled for 9:56 am. I did notice a plethora of Transit Police, who seemed entranced in 'professional conversation' as the aggressive homeless literally overran the station.. Thanks DHS!
• 10:15am. Had to listen to a lunatic beside me on the Middleboro Commuter Rail train 'yell' at his family member, at the top of his dumbass ghetto lungs, about taking the correct bus from Hyannis to Brockton... for 30 fucking minutes.. from South Station to Brockton Station. There were 4 of us on this one and only available train car..
• I get home to South Coast Mass; no sleep, not a minute.. and go to a 2pm appointment -in downtown New Bedford no less. On my way home, I get accosted by not one, not two.. not four... but SIX separate individuals; looking for cigarettes, "got a dollar for coffee" any change... 20 meters from the NB Police station. ...it is the middle of the fucking day.
• Last notable iteration; as I opened the car door toward home.. a well dressed young woman with two well dressed 6-7 year old daughters sidles up; "Excuse me sir, do you 'got a' dollar...? ...sorry sister, this pool of empathy has done gone dry..

What the f*ck... is it me?
